History

1 Jan 1965, by decision of the Heads of State and Government of H-XD3027 - Organization of African Unity (OAU), to absorb H-XH3797 - Commission for Technical Cooperation in Africa South of the Sahara (CTCA), set up Jan 1950, Paris (France), and referred to, from 1962, as Commission for Technical Cooperation in Africa – Commission de coopération technique en Afrique. Subsequently referred to as Scientific, Technical and Research Commission of the Organization of African Unity (OAU/STRC) – Commission scientifique, technique et de la recherche de l'Organisation de l'unité africaine (OUA/CSTR). Previously also referred to in French as Commission de recherches scientifiques et techniques de l'Organisation de l'unité africaine (CRST). The Commission serves Africa in all matters relating to science, technology and research by coordinating joint projects as stated in OAU Charter, Lagos (Nigeria) Plan of Action, Africa's Priority Programme for Economic Recovery and Abuja Treaty establishing the African Economic Community. Currently a specialized institution within D-XD8572 - African Union (AU).

Aims

Implement the Africa's Science and Technology Policy in coordination with relevant stakeholders; promote the intra-Africa research activates; identify new and comparative priority areas for research; popularize the scientific and technological research culture in Africa.
