History
1950, Delft (Netherlands), as International Training Centre for Aerial Survey. Became, 1966, International Institute for Aerial Survey and Earth Sciences. Name changed to, 1984, International Institute for Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences (ITC) -- Institut international de levés aérospatiaux et sciences de la terre -- Instituto Internacional para Levantamientos Aeroespaciales y Ciencias Terrestres -- Internationaal Instituut voor Lucht- en Ruimtekaartering en Aardkunde. Current name adopted 2002. As of 1 Jan 2010, became a Faculty of the University of Twente (Netherlands), with the title Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente.
Aims
Stimulate capacity building and institutional development of professional and academic organizations and individuals specifically in countries that are economically and/or technologically less developed; find solutions for and strengthen civil society in addressing issues of local, national and global dimensions such as the multifunctional use of scarce resources, including space, the effects of climate change and environmental security.
