The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).
Founded
1975
History
1975. Formalized, 9 Jun 1989, Copenhagen (Denmark), on signature of a Memorandum of Understanding, addendum signed 7 Dec 1990, Reykjavik (Iceland). Memorandum of Understanding came into force 19 Dec 1991, for 3 years. Merged with U-XF5275 - Western European Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (WELAC), 31 May 1994, to create U-XF3391 - European Cooperation for Accreditation of Laboratories (EAL).
Aims
Build up and maintain mutual confidence among member services; develop and maintain close collaboration among them in work on dissemination of units of measurement and on accreditation of calibration laboratories; open and maintain channels for flow of technical knowledge; promote international acceptance of certificates of calibration issued by laboratories accredited by signatories to the WECC Multilateral Agreement on equivalence of operation; harmonize calibration procedures and presentation of calibration results; promote visits and cross participation of experts among members and cooperation in training of laboratory assessors and staff.

Committee (meets annually), consisting of one delegate for each accreditation body and including Chairman and Secretary who, with Subcommittee Chairmen and up to 3 other members, comprise the Executive Committee. Secretariat. Subcommittees (4): Multilateral Agreement; Technical Activities; Documentation; International Cooperation. Technical Expert Groups (6): Dimensional measurements; Pressure measurements; Other mechanical measurements; DC and low frequency electrical measurements; High frequency electrical measurements; Temperature measurements. Task Forces (3): Ionizing radiation and radioactivity; Reference materials; Liquid and gas flow measurements.
