History
22 May 1954, by Agreement between the 5 Nordic countries to enable citizens of the Nordic countries to move freely across their borders. The subsequent T-XT5512 - Convention Respecting Social Security, signed 1955, replaced 12 multi and bilateral conventions; it was later revised under the auspices of D-XD4238 - Nordic Council of Ministers (NCM) and D-XD2984 - Nordic Council (NC). This revision, T-XT8170 - Nordic Convention on Social Security, was signed by Nordic Ministers of Social Affairs, 5 Mar 1981, and came into effect 1 Jan 1982. The T-XT8151 - Agreement Concerning a Common Nordic Labour Market, signed 6 Mar 1982, entered into force 1 Aug 1983. Current rules grant the right to be temporarily or permanently employed in a wage-earning capacity without a labour permit or labour market test. However, independent workers have stricter rules and individual countries reserve the right to apply different qualifications or limitations on managerial, self-employed and professional workers. Not an organization but a status arising from inter-Nordic treaties. Relevant administrative body: Nordic Committee of Senior Officials for Labour (EK-A).
