13 Dec 2002, Bangkok (Thailand), by B-XB3383 - UNESCO, by merger of U-XF2135 - Regional Informatics Network in South and Central Asia (RINSCA), U-XF2324 - Regional Informatics Network for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RINSEAP) and H-XF0319 - Regional Network for the Exchange of Information and Experience in Science and Technology in Asia and the Pacific (ASTINFO). Guided by K-XK2149 - Information for All Programme (IFAP), launched 1 Jan 2001, in accordance with APIN's mandate to promote free flow of ideas.

Aims

Support development of technical and organizational infrastructure for the production of local content and sharing of indigenous knowledge; promote information and knowledge networking at local, national and regional levels; support programs on information, media and ICT literacy, including training, continuing education and lifelong learning; develop guidelines of information policies and promote ICT applications in support of national development plans; build consensus on basic principles on the ethical, legal and societal aspects of ICT applications and promote the use of international standards and best practices in communication, information and informatics; develop and promote standards and management tools and support capacity building programs for the preservation of documentary heritage.
