Promote cooperation among Member States and ensure coordination of their activities in favour of health development in the sub-region; establish and coordinate programmes for control and eradication of the major widespread endemic-epidemic diseases in Member States' territories - trypanosomiasis, leprosy, treponematosis, malaria, onchocercosis, bilharziasis, trachoma, tuberculosis, measles, etc; carry out the necessary studies, research and investigation to combat these diseases; awaken interest in and gain support of inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations to achieve these aims; provide documentation to the responsible departments of Member States.
