Founded with support from the E-XE3382 - UNDP, as a regional training institute operating under the aegis of E-XE4177 - United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). Subsidiary body of ESCAP since 1995.

Aims

Strengthen, through practically oriented training of official statisticians, capability of countries in the Asia-Pacific region to collect, process, analyse and disseminate statistics; produce timely and high-quality statistics; assist in establishing or strengthening their statistical training capability and other related activities.

Structure

Governing Council, consisting of a representative nominated by the host country, Japan, and 8 representatives, nominated by other members and associate members of ESCAP and elected by ESCAP. Executive Secretary and chiefs of concerned divisions of ESCAP attend meetings of the Council in non-voting capacities. The Director of SIAP serves as Secretary of the Council.
