A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN): The Holy See maintains a 'Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations'. The status of 'observer state' ensures total neutrality as regards political issues. Although the Holy See does not cast a vote, it can and does make statements during the discussion of any item before the different Committees; and on special occasions it may address the General Assembly.
'Editor's Note': Although not disagreeing with the details as mentioned above, the Roman Catholic Church has strong reservations as to the inclusion of this entry in the Yearbook of International Organizations. We therefore point out that the Hierarchy as described refers only to the administration of the Church and not to the existence of the Church as such.
