1955
History
1955, as Conférence du Taurus Express et des relations directes, by the railway administrations of Turkey, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and U-XF0888 - Compagnie des wagons-lits (CWL), following the Taurus Express Convention, signed in 1948. A new Convention was drawn up in 1966. Name changed, 1969, to Taurus Conference. CIWLT subsequently left the Conference. Present name adopted 1979. Also referred to as Conference of Middle East Railways. Assumed dead before 2012.
Aims
Resolve all important matters rising from the railway relations between the participating administration, such as time-tables, tariffs, accounts, exchange of supplies, international agreements; resolve general questions concerning the common interest between the participating administrations; examine and propose necessary possibilities to increase the financial and technical performance and improve the position of common transport.
