History
30 Oct 1976, Monrovia (Liberia), at meeting of representatives of National Pharmaceutical Associations from Benin, Ghana, Gambia, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, and Sierra Leone. Constitution drafted by all present, but francophone countries present refused membership, in favour of observer status. Accepted, Oct 1979, as agency of H-XD4575 - West African Health Community (WAHC).
Aims
Develop and advance all aspects of pharmaceutical profession in West Africa; encourage national pharmaceutical associations; work towards formation of Continental Pharmaceutical Association; encourage coordination of activities and exchange of information; encourage the development of pharmaceutical studies, advancement and standardization of pharmaceutical education, harmonization of pharmaceutical legislation, and cooperation with similar organizations.

General Assembly (every 2 years). Council (meets once a year), consisting of comprising members of the Executive, Chairmen of Specialized Committees, Directors of Pharmaceutical Services/Chief Pharmacists of Ministries of Health of each member state, Immediate Past President and one representative of each member country. Executive, comprising all officers of the Federation: President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Immediate Past President, Secretary General, Assistant Secretary General, Treasurer, Editor-in-Chief. Secretariat, headed by Executive Secretary who is appointed by the Assembly of Health Ministers (AHM) of WAHC on the recommendation of Council WAPF.
