History

Founded at 4th World Conference on General Practice, when Interim Constitution adopted, the 1st Conference having been held 1964, Montréal (Canada).

Formally inaugurated and constitution and by-laws adopted at 5th World Conference, Oct 1972, Melbourne (Australia). Secretariat location: Adelaide (Australia) 1972 - 1981; Melbourne 1981 - Sep 1993; Hong Kong Sep 1993 - Sep 1997; Melbourne Sep 1997 - Apr 2001; Singapore (Singapore) May 2001 - Sep 2013; Bangkok (Thailand) Oct 2013 - present. 26 May 1989, new bylaws were adopted. Bylaws updated Jul 2010.

Aims

Improve quality of life of peoples of the world through defining and promoting its values, including respect for universal human rights and gender equity, and by fostering high standards of care in general practice/family medicine.
