The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History
Established on signature of an Agreement between the H-XD0665 - European Community and the member countries of D-XD0766 - EFTA. Entered into force on 1 Jan 1994, for 5 countries on EFTA side (Sweden, Finland, Austria, Norway and Iceland) and the then 12 EU member states. For Liechtenstein, EEA Agreement entered into force on 1 May 1995. Switzerland remains outside following a referendum, Dec 1992. Sweden, Finland and Austria transferred from EFTA to the F-XF2147 - European Union (EU) on 1 Jan 1995. Cyprus, Czech Rep, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia joined 1 May 2004. Bulgaria and Romania joined 2007. Croatia joined 2014. EEA now consists of the 27 EU member states together with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. It extends the E-XK0128 - EU Customs Union single market to the 3 participating EFTA / EEA countries.
Aims
The EEA Agreement guarantees equal rights and obligations within the Internal Market for individuals and economic operators in the EEA.

The decision-making process under the EEA Agreement is characterised by its two-pillar structure. Common bodies such as the EEA Council and the EEA Joint Committee administer the EEA Agreement. There are also two common advisory bodies: the EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee and the EEA Consultative Committee.
Secretariat maintains three duty stations - Geneva, Brussels and Luxembourg. Brussels provides support in management of the EEA Agreement and assistance to Member States in preparing new legislation for incorporation into the Agreement; Luxembourg contributes to development of a broad and integrated European Statistical System.
