On February 29th, the 5th Philippine Silk Summit, organized by ISU member, Textile Research Institute of the Philippine Department of Science and Technology(DOST), is successfully held in Cagayan de Oro City, capital city of Misamis Oriental Province in the southern Philippines. Senator Maria Lourdes Nancy Binay Angeles, House Representatives Carlito Marquez and Yevgeny Vincent B. Emano, Provincial Governor Peter M. Unabia of Misamis Oriental and Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Secretary of the DOST, as well as other DOST officials, leaders of local government units, academic institutions, silk stakeholders attend the summit.
At the invitation of the organizers, Zhang Guoqiang, Chairman of ISU and Chairman of Cathaya Group, delivers a video speech at the summit, expressing warm congratulations on the convening of the summit on behalf of ISU. He introduces the development process of ISU and the current situation of the third council, briefly analyzes the current distribution of world silk production and trade. He also states that ISU will continue to provide platform support for the development of the Philippine sericulture and silk industry, while welcome influential and representative organizations and enterprises in the Philippines to participate in ISU activities, to further strengthen international exchanges, and promote industrial cooperation.
Since 2019, the Philippine Textile Research Institute has held five consecutive silk summits. The theme of this summit is "Spinning Innovations for Philippine Silk", seeking to build up the current and potential partners of the Philippine silk to strengthen cooperation towards the realization of sustainable and sufficient Philippine silk. Hosting for the first time outside Metro Manila, the summit aims to serve as a platform for collaboration and convergence among key stakeholders in shaping the national framework of Philippine silk. At the same time, a series of supporting activities are also held, including Silk Innovation Hub-Misamis Oriental Launch, SEDA Pilipinas Exhibition, Ceremonial MOA and MOU Exchange, the Philippine Silk Stakeholders' Forum, Silk Stakeholders' Night and the field visit to key partners' sites.
