Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC), one of the leading international standard venues in Thailand and Southeast Asia, received the Thailand Energy Award from the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), the Ministry of Energy. The award is for the exceptional control building 2020 for the collaboration between BITEC and Bhiraj Tower at Emquartier on behalf of the Bhiraj Buri Group. The award recognises BITEC as a national leader in energy saving and renewable energy development, counting as a significant step forward for the organisation.
The award recognises BITEC's intentions in implementing an energy management system across the facility. BITEC values energy management and places it at the centre of an organisation’s policy to encourage employees to be responsible and operate in an energy-efficient manner. In accordance with BITEC's fundamental business commitments and policies on sustainable management, BITEC has continually improved and developed energy utilisation in various parts of the building and living space. This comprises replacing existing lighting with led energy-saving lamps, replacing high-performance water-cooled chillers, replacing air transmitters (AHU) in the EH101-104 area and installing and reducing variable speed drive (VSD) cooling tower frequency. The efforts result in a 491-kW reduction in electricity consumption, amounting to 930,560 kWh and a savings of 3,619,880 baht per year, as well as a reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of roughly 676,066 baht (kg-CO2). From 2021 onwards, BITEC plans to continue to implement energy reduction policies in all parts of the facility as well as develop a corporate culture of environmental conservation and energy efficiency through regular training for staff.
BITEC is focused on improving energy efficiency in order to save cost and promoting the use of clean renewable energy to drive corporate operations while also conserving the environment. These efforts are part of BITEC’s business plan, which intends to drive the centre into Thailand’s and Southeast Asia’s leading green MICE destination.
