This annual prize is awarded by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in partnership with the Václav Havel Library, the Charta 77 Foundation, and the Government of the Czech Republic. It is awarded in memory of Václav Havel, playwright, opponent of totalitarianism, architect of the velvet revolution of 1989, President of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic and an enduring symbol of opposition to despotism. 

The Prize, which consists of a sum of €60 000, a trophy and a diploma, rewards outstanding civil society action in the defence of human rights in Europe and beyond. It is open to nominations from any individual, non-governmental organisation or institution working to defend human rights.

Since 2013, it was awarded successively to Ales Bialiatski (Belarus), Anar Mammadli (Azerbaijan), Ludmilla Alexeeva (Russian Federation), Nadia Murad (Iraq), Murat Arslan (Turkey), Oyub Titiev (Russian Federation) and was awarded jointly toIlham Tohti (China) and the Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR). 

The deadline for submitting nominations for the 2021 edition of the Prize is 30 April 2021. The Award Ceremony will take place in the Assembly Chamber in September 2021 during the Fourth part-session.

J'ai le plaisir de vous annoncer l'appel à candidatures pour l'édition 2021 du Prix des Droits de l'Homme Václav Havel.

Ce prix annuel est décerné par l'Assemblée parlementaire du Conseil de l'Europe, en partenariat avec la Bibliothèque Václav Havel, la Fondation Charte 77 et le Gouvernement de la République tchèque. Ce prix est décerné en mémoire de Václav Havel, dramaturge, combattant du totalitarisme, artisan de la révolution de velours de 1989, Président de la Tchécoslovaquie et de la République tchèque et symbole durable de l'opposition au despotisme. 

Ce Prix, doté d'une somme de 60 000 €, d'un trophée et d'un diplôme, récompense des actions exceptionnelles de la société civile dans la défense des droits de l'homme en Europe et en dehors du continent. Le Prix est ouvert à toute candidature de personne, organisation non gouvernementale ou institution œuvrant à la défense des droits de l'homme.

La date limite de dépôt des candidatures pour l'édition 2021 du Prix est fixée au 30 avril 2021. La Cérémonie de remise du Prix se tiendra dans l'hémicycle de l'Assemble en septembre 2021 pendant la 4ème partie de session.
