History
Constitutive Assembly was held at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris (France), Nov 1950.
Statutes amended at 2nd General Assembly 27-30 Nov 1951, Belgrade (Yugoslavia). Statutes amended: 21 July 1965; 1976; Jan 1983; Nov 1985; Dec 1988; Nov 1997; Dec 2000; Dec 2006.
U-XE1225 - WVF International Socio-Medical Information Centre (WISMIC) was set up in 1986, Oslo (Norway) in cooperation with the University of Oslo.
Aims
Maintain international peace and security by application, in both letter and spirit, of the United Nations Charter and implementation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; defend spiritual and material interests of war veterans and war victims by all legal and constitutional means; establish permanent relations among national and international organizations of war veterans and war victims; encourage direct cooperation and relations of friendship, understanding, exchange of experience and cooperation among these associations in all fields affecting their interests, with emphasis on exchange of information on their respective legislations; initiate or support measures for peace, disarmament, protection of human rights, international humanitarian law, rehabilitation of persons with disabilities and their reintegration into the community, legislation concerning war veterans and victims of war, assistance to veterans and civilian victims of recent and current conflicts, development, protection of the environment; promote international cooperation and encourage surveys and research in these fields, including as a particular concern the problem of accessibility of the man-made environment - housing, public transport, streets, work-places, etc - as a basic condition for reintegration; preserve the memory of the war dead.
