History

3 Jun 1957, Cairo (Egypt), when Convention on establishment was adopted, under Economic Unity Agreement between States of D-XD2903 - League of Arab States (LAS). Agreement entered into force 30 May 1964, representing a multilateral framework for economic development on a regional basis. Agreement was ratified by 11 countries: Egypt; Jordan; Kuwait; Libyan AJ; Mauritania; Palestine; Somalia; Sudan; Syria AR; Yemen Democratic Republic; Republic of Yemen.

Aims

Promote trade among Arab countries; work to achieve full economic unity among member countries; ensure equal rights to member states and their citizens, according to founding agreement, of freedom of movement of individuals and capital, of exchange of domestic and foreign goods, of residence, work, employment and economic activities, of transport, transit and civil airports facilities and of ownership and inheritance.
