The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History
1 Aug 1952, Copenhagen (Denmark), by three major international federations of teachers: H-XH0175 - World Organization of the Teaching Profession (WOTP); H-XC2021 - International Federation of Teachers' Associations (IFTA); and H-XD1999 - Fédération internationale des professeurs de l'enseignement secondaire officiel (FIPESO). IFTA and FIPESO became Constituent Federations of WCOTP; WOTP ceased to exist on setting up of WCOTP. Constitution and Bylaws last amended: Aug 1988. World Congress Jan 1993, Stockholm (Sweden), decided WCOTP would cease to exist as of 31 Dec 1993, on merger with H-XC1919 - International Federation of Free Teachers' Unions (IFFTU), to form B-XB1111 - Education International (EI). However, the organization ceased to exist de facto (although not de jure) as of 31 Jan 1993.
Aims
Gather all teachers into one organization capable of exerting an influence commensurate with the social importance of the function; foster a concept of education directed toward promotion of international understanding and good will, the safeguarding of peace and freedom, and respect of human dignity; improve teaching methods, educational programmes, the organization of education and the academic and professional initial and continuing preparation of teachers so that the interests of all people may be better served; defend the rights of teachers and their organizations, and the material and moral interests of the teaching profession.
