My favourite spots: Top restaurants:

StieglKeller: There’s a saying in Salzburg: If you haven’t been to the StieglKeller, you haven’t been to Salzburg. Since I was born here, the StieglKeller belongs to the historical old town just like the cathedral and Mozart’s house of birth. The terraces give you the most beautiful view of the old town and since Salzburg has a rich tradition in beer brewing, you should try the different kinds of beers from our city.

S’Herzl & Goldener Hirsch: The Goldener Hirsch is Europe’s oldest hotel and accommodates two restaurants. The fine dining “Restaurant Goldener Hirsch” and the more down to earth option “Restaurant s’Herzl”. Charmingly, the staff is dressed in original loden-cloth.

M32: Not quite above the clouds, but above the city. The M32 in the museum of modern arts is the modern getaway from the centuries of history. The restaurant is situated on the Mönchsberg, one of the city mountains and can easily be reached by three elevators within the mountain.

Top three bars:

Steinterrasse: Either before or after dinner you should visit the roof top terrace of the hotel Stein. The glass front offers great views of the historical old town, great music with live DJs and fancy cocktails. Book a table or be there early.

Carpe Diem: Red Bull, the world renowned energy and sports company, is based in Salzburg. Their gastronomical concept of “Carpe Diem” surely is something new to many people. The sedate interior also attracts celebrities and creates a comfy atmosphere for many locals. It’s a place to see and be seen or just to enjoy a glass of wine. My tip: Try out their small finger food menu. Everything is served in cones!

Republic: A more casual and trendy place to go for a night out. Any day of the week drinks are served with sounds of master DJs in a mixture of a new-age coffee house and a modern bar ambiance. The later the night, the louder the music becomes.

Top three hot spots:

Fortress Hohensalzburg: This top ten sight in Austria should be on your list. The fortress can be reached by a short ride with a funicular or a footpath for more athletic visitors. Stroll around the castle walls, take some pictures and have a coffee. The museum tour is interestingly set with audio-guides.

Mozart’s Birthplace: It’s the most common picture taken by visitors in Salzburg. Visitors are conducted through the original Mozart rooms at Mozart's Birthplace containing historic instruments, documents, memorabilia and most of the portraits painted during his lifetime, including the unfinished oil painting "Mozart at the Piano".

Mirabell gardens: This garden is full of love. Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich had this garden and the large palace built for his mistress. Fifteen children were born in the palace and it’s still the venue for civil ceremonies today. Also the maze should be visited. No admission.
