Anyone who has worked in, or been an active member of, a professional association over the last decade during the financial crisis, knows that the challenges confronting organizations are many and complex. The solutions to these challenges often appear to be a double edged-sword, bringing risks as well as benefits, and creating friction between members and their own association.
As a professional working in an association, on one hand you are battling against the comfort of the status quo, consolidating what you already have, and not risking financial resources on change that will probably be difficult and occasionally painful.
After a few turbulent years recently, your membership base may be showing signs of stabilizing, or even growing as retention rates rise and recruitment picks up, even though overall growth rates have not yet surpassed the pre-financial crisis figures. At this point, the appeal of the age-old saying “Don’t fix what ain’t broke” is certainly a strong one; one probably supported by the valued cohort of long-term members who are often content with the way things are done and see change as unnecessary...

Actually we are organizing two events back to back with each other, the WWEC2016 in Tokyo, directly followed by the 1st World Community Power Conference in Fukushima city. The theme for the WWEC2016 is: “Concentrating efforts for wind power growth in Japan and worldwide!” – reflecting the strong need to accelerate the deployment of wind power as part of the global shift towards renewable energy. The WCPC is following the theme “One year after Paris – five years after Fukushima: Community power for a renewable future!” hence highlighting even more clearly the global and Japanese context in which these events are taking place...

Brussels. According to the 57th edition (published June 2016) of the UIA International Meetings Statistics Report, the South Pacific island nation of Niue had the largest number of international association meetings in 2015 relative to population: Niue has a population of 1,470 and it hosted two international association meetings in 2015, for a ratio of one meeting to 735 people. Monaco, with one meeting to 3,436 people, was second. The USA, number one in terms of absolute number of international association meetings, was 80th on this list, with one meeting to 367,423 people.
